Music is an important part of
our life and worship at st Stephen

Music is all around us, helping us to express our joys, comfort us in our sorrows, and to lift our hearts to God as we raise our voices to him in worship.

Singing

We like to sing at St Stephen, filling our big and beautiful church with the sound of holy voices!

For feasts and festivals we have a ladies choir of up to twenty, welcoming any from the congregation who wish to join us, as well as some friends from further afield, in learning something more ambitious than our usual repertoire. Men would be a very welcome addition, too!

It has been a joy in this last year to learn some Palestrina in Latin for the Candlelit Advent Carol Service (sung unaccompanied), and John Rutter's, 'For the beauty of the earth' for our Feast Service. A challenge and an achievement, and a much appreciated addition to our worship by those who came.

We try to meet prior to Advent, Christmas, Easter, Feast and harvest thanksgiving for rehearsals, as well as other special occasions that might arise. If you would like to join us the only requirement is a love of singing and a willingness to have a go at something new to you. We have also helped lead the singing at weddings, and sing a simple anthem.

Concerts

During the year we host a number of fundraising concerts, sometimes for ourselves and sometimes for other charities. If you would like to come and sing for us, or would like to use our church, please contact us. We regularly welcome choirs and bands of all descriptions, who play to a very appreciative and warm audience.
